5 Days Private Tour Itinerary from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert

Day 1: Marrakesh _ the high Atlas Mountains _ Ait Ben Haddou _ Boumalne Dades.

Begin your tour at 8:30 AM with a departure from your hotel/Riad in Marrakech. Journey through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260m), stopping to admire breathtaking landscapes and traditional Berber villages in the High Atlas Mountains. Then, explore the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, this famous Castel, which is considered one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Many films were filmed here, including Kingdom of Heaven, The Mummy (1999), and Game of Thrones.

After lunch at a local restaurant, we head towards Boumalne Dades via 1001 Kasbah Road and Kalaat Mgouna to visit a small factory known for rose products in the region. We will arrive at Boumalne Dades and overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Boumalne Dades – Todgha Gorge – Merzouga.

Day two begins with breakfast at the hotel in the Dades Valley, followed by a journey to the Merzouga Desert. Along the way, visit the beautiful town of Tinghir and pause at a panoramic viewpoint to admire the stunning scenery, including the palm oasis stretching along the river.. This area was historically inhabited by both Berbers and Jews.

Next, explore the renowned Todra Gorge (400m) before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant. Later, proceed to Merzouga, where a camel caravan awaits.. The camel guide will accompany you on an exceptional trip across the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, leading you to the camp. Along the way, you will  stop to witness the sunset from the top of a nearby sandy peak. Once at the camp, the staff will warmly welcome you. After enjoying a dinner of authentic Moroccan dishes, there will be a Berber concert featuring drums around the campfire, under the breathtaking night sky filled with millions of stars.

Day 3: Explorative day of the desert.

Start your day with a peaceful sunrise at the camp, followed by breakfast. Then, embark on a 4WD adventure to explore the desert..

1- Visit an abandoned village tucked away in the desert, offering breathtaking panoramic views.

2- Meet local Nomads in their settlement, where they warmly invite you into their tent to share a cup of traditional Sahara tea.. It is also an opportunity to learn about their lifestyle in a harsh environment, far from cities and civilization.

3- Drive to another village called Khamlia, where we will listen to the Gnawa music played by the locals, originally from South African countries such as Mali. Here, you can also have lunch at a local restaurant.

4- After lunch, we will head towards a lake adjacent to Merzouga before returning to your hotel.

Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Agdz – Ouarzazate

Start your morning with a serene view from your hotel’s terrace. After breakfast, begin the journey toward Ouarzazate.. First, we will stop in the city of Rissani, where we will visit the traditional market, which was once an important commercial center for the Tafilalt region.

Then, we will follow the road to the town of Agdz and make a stop to admire the landscapes of the Grand Draa Valley. Finally, we will arrive at your hotel in Ouarzazate in the evening.

Day 5: Explore Ouarzazate – Telouet kasbah – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech.

On the final day, enjoy breakfast at your hotel before exploring Ouarzazate. This historic city once served as a key stop for cross-border caravans and is home to iconic kasbahs, including the renowned Kasbah of Taourirt. It is also home to the Atlas Studio, making it a renowned and significant location for filmmaking in the region and Africa.

After exploring Ouarzazate, we will return to Marrakech through the Atlas Mountains. Along the way, we will make a stop to visit the Kasbah of Telouet, which was also a meeting point for trade caravans traveling from the Sahara Desert to Marrakech.

Finally, we will head to Marrakech in the evening and drive you to the airport or your place of residence, thus concluding the 5 days desert tour.
