Itinerary: Day Trip To Imlil Valley From Marrakech
Full-Day trip to Imlil Valley from Marrakech
Your day trip to Imlil Valley kicks off with a 9 a.m. departure from Marrakech by car. The scenic drive spans 90 minutes, leading you southward through the striking Moulay Brahim Gorges. If you time it right, you’ll arrive at Asni on a Saturday, when a bustling weekly market comes to life – a truly exhilarating experience! From there, we’ll proceed to Imlil (1,740m), nestled in the upper foothills of the Western High Atlas mountains. This village serves as a primary trailhead, with streams and trails branching out in various directions.
Upon arrival, we’ll leave our vehicle and relish a soothing glass of mint tea in the village. This is also where you’ll meet your local guide before embarking on your 4 km expedition. Your trusty guide will lead you southward to the Berber village of Aroumd (1,843m). Along the way, you’ll pass through the charming hamlets of Ait Souka and Targa Imoula. As you traverse the rugged slopes, the formidable peaks of the Toubkal Massif will unfold before you – Jbels Aguelzim (3,547m), Aksouâl (3,847m), and the Adrar Adj (3,122m).
During the trek, we’ll make a stop at Aroumd to explore a village in the Assif Aït Mizane Valley, a historically significant place that you won’t want to miss. This settlement is perched house upon house on a vast moraine spur, overlooking time-honored terraced fields of barley, corn, and vegetables, eternally embraced by walnut trees. The journey continues for another half an hour, culminating in a lunch break thoughtfully prepared by a Berber family in the village of Achayn. Post-lunch, we’ll trace our steps down the opposite side of the valley, making our way back to Imlil for the return trip to Marrakech.
