3 Days Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Tour Itinerary
Here is the program for the 3 days group tour to Merzouga desert.
Day 1: Red city of Marrakech - Atlas Mountains - Ait Ben Haddou - Boumalne Dades
On Day 1, we will pick you up from Marrakech airport or your hotel and drive towards Boumalne Dades. Along the way, we will pass through the Atlas Mountains, the highest mountain range in North Africa, renowned for its natural beauty, deep gorges, and Berber villages. Our first stop will be at Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, one of the best destinations in Southeast Morocco, and a prime example of traditional Moroccan architecture made of earthen clay and stone. It has been designated as a UNESCO world heritage site since 1987 and has been used as a filming location for many movies, including Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator, and The Mummy (1999).
After visiting the Kasbah, we will have lunch at a local restaurant before heading to the Atlas Studio one of the largest studios in Africa. Then, we will continue to the city for a panoramic view of the Taourirt Kasbah, which was built in the 17th century and was once the residence of the powerful Glaoui family, who were the lords of the Atlas Mountains region. We’ll Continue driving through Skoura and Kalaat MGouna, Later, we will head to Boumalne Dades for the night, where we will have dinner and stay at a hotel.
Day 2: Boumalne Dades - Todra Gorges - Tinjdad - Erfoud - Merzouga Desert (Camel Trek, Night in Sahara)
After breakfast at the hotel in Boumalne Dades, we will continue our tour towards Merzouga desert. Along the way, we will pass through the panoramic views of the Dades valley, and stop to take pictures. We will then proceed to the Todra Gorges, known for their towering rock walls that reach up to 400 meters in height. Afterward, we will drive to Tinjdad for lunch before reaching the gate of the desert, Erfoud.
In less than an hour, we will reach the desert of Merzouga where you can feel the calmness of the place and enjoy the warmth of the sun.
In the late afternoon, we will start an epic camel ride towards the overnight camp, crossing the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, which will be one of the most beautiful experiences of your trip. We will stop for a while to watch the sunset before continuing our journey to the camp, where we will have dinner and enjoy a Berber and desert concert by the side of a campfire, under a sky shining with millions of stars.
Day 3: Camel ride back to Merzouga - Rose Valley - Ouarzazate - Atlas Mountains - Marrakech
Today we will wake up early and take a short walk near the camp to witness the magical sunrise and enjoy the serenity of the desert. After breakfast, we will ride camels back to the hotel where our transportation is waiting for us to start our journey back to Marrakech.
As we leave the Merzouga desert, we will pass through a vast plain and desert rocky mountains, and travel through Rose Valley and Ouarzazate. We will have some time to stop for pictures, including a lunch break before crossing the Atlas Mountains (2260 m) and the Tizi n’Tichka pass to reach the red city of Marrakech.
Upon arrival in Marrakech, we will drop you off at your accommodation, marking the end of your 3 days tour to the Merzouga desert.
