4 Days Desert Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga

We offer a carefully paced 4-day desert tour from Marrakech to the Merzouga Sahara, designed for travelers who want to experience Morocco’s most iconic landscapes without rushing. This journey takes you across the High Atlas Mountains, through ancient kasbahs, dramatic gorges, and finally into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, where you spend unforgettable nights in the desert.

This tour follows a route we operate regularly with experienced local drivers, focusing on comfort, scenic stops, and authentic experiences rather than long, exhausting driving days.

Highlights of the Private 4-Day Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga

Marrakech to Merzouga Itinerary (4 Days)

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Gorge

We start early with pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech, then travel east across the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the way, we stop at panoramic viewpoints and traditional Berber villages.

Our first major visit is the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou, where you have time to explore the historic ksar and enjoy lunch nearby (not included). We then continue to Ouarzazate, known as the gateway to the desert, before driving through the Rose Valley and Skoura oasis.

By late afternoon, we arrive in Dades Gorge, where we check into a hotel or riad for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Dades Gorge – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga Sahara Desert

After breakfast, we drive deeper into the desert landscapes, stopping at the impressive Todra Gorge, famous for its towering canyon walls and riverside paths.

We continue through desert towns and palm oases, passing Erfoud, a region known for fossils and date palms. In the afternoon, we reach Merzouga, at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Here, you switch to camels for a sunset ride across the dunes, arriving at your desert camp in time for dinner and an overnight under the stars.

Day 3: Merzouga Region Exploration

We recommend waking early to watch the sunrise over the dunes — one of the most memorable moments of the tour. After breakfast, the day is dedicated to exploring the Merzouga region.

We drive through desert landscapes to visit nomadic families, explore oases, and stop at Khamlia village to experience traditional Gnaoua music. You will also have time to relax at the camp or enjoy optional activities such as sandboarding or a 4×4 desert excursion (optional).

Dinner and overnight at the desert camp.

Day 4: Merzouga – Alnif – Ouarzazate – Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

After breakfast, we begin the return journey. Driving west through Alnif and desert plains, we head back toward Ouarzazate and cross the Atlas Mountains once again.

We make scenic stops along the way before arriving back in Marrakech in the evening, where we drop you off at your hotel or riad.
