3-Day Desert Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech - High Atlas - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Dades Valley
Departing from your Riad or hotel in Marrakech at 8:00 am, we will begin our 3 days shared desert tour by making our way to the Dades Valley. As we travel, we’ll pass through the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, a scenic overlook that offers breathtaking views of the Atlas Mountains and the surrounding terrain.
At a height of 2260 meters, this mountain peak offers you a stunning overview of the Atlas Mountains’ untamed landscape in all directions. You will be greeted by a breathtaking landscape of rocky peaks, verdant valleys, and colorful wildflowers at every turn, making for an enthralling setting for exploration and photography. With nearby Berber villages scattered throughout the landscape, the area is also rich in cultural heritage, enabling you to fully immerse yourself in the customs and ways of life of these people.
Ait Ben Haddou, a quaint little village in southeast Morocco that has grown in popularity as a tourist destination in recent years, will be our next stop. The Kasbah, a fortified building that has served as the setting for numerous Hollywood blockbusters, such as Gladiator, Prince of Persia, and Game of Thrones, is among the area’s top attractions.
We’ll proceed to Ouarzazate, where we will make a brief stop to see the Taourirt Kasbah, distinguished by its massive towers with exquisite designs and sculpted windows. You will find yourself in a tangle of passageways and chambers. The interior walls are brightly colored, featuring painted plaster, zelliges, and pink laurel stems twisted together in the Tataoui style, as well as wood planks carved to resemble ceilings.
Skoura, a fairytale-like region, will also be one of our destinations. Almond, fig, olive, and date palm gardens, sun-dried bricks, and deserted houses are some of the sights you can expect to see along the way. There are more than a hundred bird species that will be audible, making sounds like twittering, chirping, cooing, croaking, and chattering. We will drop you off at your hotel for the night after arriving at Dades Gorge/tinghir in the evening.
Day 2: Dades Gorge - Todra Gorge - Erfoud - Merzouga (Erg Chebbi)
After breakfast, we’ll continue our 3 days shared tour to the Marrakech desert. Our first stop will be Valley, renowned for its breathtaking mountain views. As we drive along the winding roads, you can see the beautiful landscapes and find hidden oases in the rough terrain. There are also camps for wheat, barley, and alfalfa in Dades Valley. Once you’re close by, the sweet scent of flowers will become increasingly stronger.
The verdant, verdant gardens and numerous date palms in this valley will astound you upon arrival at Tinghir. From the oasis town, the trip goes on for about 15 km along a road that leads to Todra Gorge. You will also see red rocky land along the way, which, along with the charming clay villages and lush palm gardens, makes for a picture-perfect setting.
We will travel via Erfoud, a small town in southern Morocco, where the river originates in the heights of the Middle Atlas Mountains and flows south into the Sahara Desert, creating the palm grove of Tafilalet, surrounded by a large hamada (rocky plain) scattered with dunes.
Just a short while after that, we’ll arrive at Merzouga. Then, accompanied by your guide and fellow travelers, you’ll ride camels to the center of the Erg Chebbi Dunes to witness the sunset and discover the area. After that, we’ll head back to camp for the night.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert - Rose Valley - Marrakech
We will wake you up extremely early to witness the sunrise on top of the dune with the other group, as today is the last day of the 3-day shared desert trip in Marrakech. Our journey back to Marrakech will take us via the picturesque Rose Valley as we set off after breakfast.
This Valley is located in the southeast region, not far from the Atlas Mountains, and it is named from the colorful flowers that grow there, as well as the shining soil. This is the perfect spot to take in the gentle shade as it graces historic building walls and natural landscapes. The weather here is consistently pleasant year-round, but to see roses in bloom, you’ll need to visit in the spring or fall.
The valley offers a comfortable environment throughout the year, but fall and spring are the best months to observe the roses in bloom. Immediately after lunch, we will drive across the Tizi n’Tichka Pass again before returning to Marrakech and dropping you off at your hotel or riad to conclude your memorable 3-day shared desert tour experience.
